Although I sell fabric online, I'm also always on the lookout for additional fabric to purchase for my business projects (because a whole room full of fabric isn't quite enough)! Since I love working with hemp, I especially keep my eye out for reasonably priced hemp remnants or scraps that I can piece together to make something uniquely creative (buying hemp new and by the yard is very expensive). For some time, I've had my sights set on a particular listing on Etsy for hemp scraps at a reasonable price from a clothing maker called Intertwined Designs but didn't have a real vision in my head for what I would make from the remnants.
One day, I got a creative bug and knew it was finally time to grab that fabric. The time between when I ordered the fabric and when it was received seemed an eternity (not really, but almost) because I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and produce the ideas that were in my head. Once I got the fabric, I was even more inspired with the cool selection of colors, since these were unknown to me until I opened up the box (it was one of those surprise grab-bag things).
So, you want to see what I've been making? Thought you'd never ask!
[I whipped these cosmetic bags out in just a matter of days using my newly acquired hemp fabric scraps.]
Since I especially have a love for vintage fabric, I used some of the luscious pieces I already had on hand to serve as liners for these little bags. Here's a peek inside the bags:
[Here's an inside peek at the vintage fabric I used for the lining.]
I also made a larger zippered bag with (again) vintage fabric for the lining. I especially love the earthy colors on this one (below)!
[This was actually the first one I made and I had a lot of fun with it!]
I am currently in the process of making a drawstring bag, similar to others I have sold in my women's handbags shop. This one required some creative piecing of scraps together and I think it'll turn out fabulous once I'm done.
So what about you? Have you had any creativity bursts lately? I'd love to hear them and it doesn't have to be about sewing. It could be about baking or decorating or playing around with fashion accessories. Tell us what you're up to!
