There's nothing quite like an unexpected, automatic charge for another year on Typepad that makes one decide to get crackin' again with the blogging. For my first post in way-too-many months, I thought I would start a tradition on my blog. I am calling it WIM Wednesday (WIM stands for What I Made or What I'm Making).
Just to give you a little background: I have quite recently (as of October 1st) been blessed with a very LARGE studio (1,534 square feet, people!) for a very SMALL price. And I am gradually trying to make it into an inspiring workspace. By gradually, I mean that I can't yet afford to paint and don't currently have the time to clean the carpets, so those things will have to wait....but since fabric is something I have a LOT of, I have made a few things to brighten up my otherwise dull environs.
For my first WIM Wednesday post, I wanted to share a photo of a colorful set of pillows I whipped out one day last week. Pretty happy with them, actually. At some point I will try to do a tutorial for beginners, though these are pretty dang easy to make if you have a modicum of math skills (i.e., can add, subtract and use a ruler), a pair of scissors and the ability to draw a straight line.
Below is a photo of them sitting on my vintage slat bench, which I bought some months ago in anticipation of putting it into my very own studio someday ("someday" being NOW - woohoo!). I plan to paint this midcentury beauty at some point.
And the other thing I made (actually, I made this the first week in my studio) is this very cool ironing board cover.
I had purchased this fabric from an Etsy seller a year ago (?) and have been saving it until the day inspiration should strike me. Well, it struck a couple weeks ago and now I have this very awesome retro ironing board cover which brings the joy of ironing to a whole new level. Truth be told, I actually like ironing when it has to do with something I'm making (except for the steam burns, but that's a separate issue).
So....that's all for today! Will try to come up with a cute tradition for Fridays so if you have any suggestions, let me have 'em...
Okay, yes, I will post one more pic of the pillows, if you insist...
